1 review for Pulsar Trail XP50

  1. John Akins

I have been using GEN 3 night vision for the last few years and I recently got a chance to try a bunch of different thermal units… from various companies… my final choice was the Pulsar Trail XP 50. The Trail XP 50 has all the features I was looking for with the ability to video and take still photos and with the 50hz frame rate the unit runs smooth and even in the rain the unit performs flawlessly. It took a little bit to understand how resolution and base magnification play together but the end result for me was the Trail 50 XP was a perfect match for me. Using the XP 50 Trail multiple nights a week hog hunting and shooting permits for our farmers here in GA the battery life is important as well and the Trail XP 50 has a removable rechargeable battery that I have use 2 nights without recharging as I forgot to recharge and wanted to see how far it would go seems to exceed the 10 to 8 hour rating for me. Removing the battery to charge while the gun and scope are tucked away in the safe is the way to go and you still have the option to charge on the go with a usb cord and external pack on the go. The Trail XP 50 also has an automatic calibration feature which I have learned to really like… the internal shutter closes and the calibration is done for you so the sensors are operating at there peak performance… other units require you to manually close the shutter or cap and scroll through the menu to select NUC and then after wasting precious time you can get back to the hunt. The Trail XP 50 also lets you select semi-automatic or manual calibration… the semi automatic function is pretty cool because you choose when the unit calibrates with a short press of the power button… still very fast and it does not calibrate at an inconvenient time. This unit is packed with features and there are to many to mention in this review but the 1 shot zero actually works… If you are looking for a Thermal unit with all the bells and whistles with fantastic speed and resolution… give the Trail XP 50 a try … I must admit I was skeptical at first because this unit seemed to good to be true… but it appears Pulsar did there homework on this one… The manual is also written very well…
