Heckler & Koch’s USP (Universal Self-loading Pistol) series was originally designed for the American market. It has now found international acceptance as an accurate and reliable firearm. Uniquely American, the controls are influenced by the Government Model 1911 pistol. Polymer materials have been in use by HK, for over 30 years, in the development of the VP70Zand P9S pistols. A USP control, a combination safety and decocking lever, is quickly accessible and frame mounted unlike slide-mounted safeties.

Using a modified Browning-type action, the USP recoil reduction system lowers recoil forces felt by the shooter and reduces recoil effects on the pistol components. Insensitive to ammunition types, the USP recoil reduction system requires no special adjustment or maintenance and the modular design and internal components allow the ambidextrous function of the control lever. Conversion from one trigger firing mode to another is possible. HK’s USP is available in nine trigger/firing mode configurations and three calibers: 9mm .40 S&W and .45 ACP.
